Finding furniture that fits

One of the joys of having an old house is all of the funny little gaps and nooks - and the lack of storage space. I'm making it my mission to fill up all of our funny little nooks and crannies with shelves and cupboards to keep out stuff organise and out of site. Some of our areas are so unusual I'm getting custom furnture solutions made - like our kitchen which is not really suited to cooking in this century! If you are also dealing with retrofitting furniture to create storage in an old house, then you'll appreciate the hints on my blog.

Critical Tips when Buying Mattresses for a Cabin

Gone are the days when the only accommodation option for tourists was hotels. Today, cabins are rapidly replacing hotel rooms in popularity thanks to the home-away-from-home experience. Therefore, if you have just acquired a cabin house and would like to rent it out to tourists, make comfort your priority. Quality mattresses are an excellent place to start because guests demand a relaxing experience. Therefore, you need to make certain considerations when buying hotel-quality commercial mattresses. Here are a few tips in this regard.

Quick Foam Memory

Modern mattresses are made with memory foam for one reason; they make sleep much more comfortable. Most people experience unrivalled comfort when lying down on a mattress made from memory foam. It is crucial because people with body aches and soreness can sleep comfortably without worrying about pain points. However, one drawback with memory foam is that a mattress returns to its original form slowly. It can make it somewhat uncomfortable when changing sleeping positions. Mattresses made from air foam take sleeping comfort to a whole new level. Unlike memory foam mattresses, air foam snaps back to its original shape very quickly. It makes it easier to switch between sleeping positions comfortably.

Double-Sided Mattress

Mattresses typically come in three levels of firmness; soft, medium, and firm. When buying mattresses for a rental cabin, you are most likely to go for soft and medium grades. Since mattress prices depend on the level of firmness, soft or plush mattresses tend to be more costly than firm ones. Therefore, the strategy will cost you a lot of money, and you might not get the right mix of mattresses. To avoid all the inconveniences, choose double-sided mattresses with two modes; a soft side and a hard side. It means that guests can easily select the most comfortable side without necessarily changing rooms.

Avoid Transmitted Bounce

Mattresses with inner springs are considered the easiest to move around than memory foam mattresses. However, the internal springs have a drawback; they bounce a lot. It means that pressure on one part of a mattress is transmitted to another section. For instance, if you sleep on a traditional spring mattress and another person jumps on the other side, you will feel the vibrations. It can be particularly annoying for someone who wants undisturbed sleep. Therefore, only buy mattresses that do not suffer from the transmitted-bounce effect. Mattresses with limited to no bounce transmission often have padding between memory foam and springs. The padding helps dampen any vibrations occurring in one part of the mattress.
