Finding furniture that fits

One of the joys of having an old house is all of the funny little gaps and nooks - and the lack of storage space. I'm making it my mission to fill up all of our funny little nooks and crannies with shelves and cupboards to keep out stuff organise and out of site. Some of our areas are so unusual I'm getting custom furnture solutions made - like our kitchen which is not really suited to cooking in this century! If you are also dealing with retrofitting furniture to create storage in an old house, then you'll appreciate the hints on my blog.

Reasons Teak Furniture Is Great For the Outdoors

When creating a living space in your backyard or patio, the first consideration to have in mind is the furniture you should purchase. Although there are a myriad of options that you can choose from, there are only a handful of materials that will be able to weather the elements without their structural integrity becoming compromised over time. One of the best options when furnishing your outdoors is teak. Here are some of the reasons why you should opt for teak outdoor furniture.

It is durable

This is the biggest selling point for teak furniture. The wood that is used to manufacture these furniture pieces is extracted from matured teak trees. These trees have developed the uncanny ability to ward off an array of conditions that could compromise their durability such as pest infestations, growth of mould and mildew, and more. In addition to this, the matured teak will not warp due to constant exposure to the changing temperatures. Thus, your outdoor teak furniture will remain in good condition no matter the prevailing weather conditions of your area. This durability makes teak an eco-friendly option too as you will not have the need to discard the furniture since they last for a significant period of time.

It is convenient

One of the greatest concerns homeowners have when it comes to outdoor furniture is the measures they will have to take to ensure they remain in pristine condition. There is no point in investing in a living space outdoors if it will gradually develop into an eyesore due to poor maintenance. One of the advantages of teak furniture is that it is low maintenance. You do not have to constantly repaint the furniture to ensure that it remains aesthetically appealing. Teak produces natural oils that keep it looking shiny. All you would be expected to do is wipe it down once in a while to eliminate any dust and grime that will accumulate on the surfaces of the furniture due to being located outdoors. You do not need any special chemicals or solutions to keep the wood in good condition.

It blends naturally with the outdoors

One of the things you will notice with teak is that over time the colour gradually changes from a golden-brown to a silver-grey. This is due to exposure to the sun. However, it is not a cause for worry, as the colour change does not affect the strength or durability of the teak. Instead, it makes it blend better with the outdoors giving your living space a rustic feel.
